4 days until Oscars: Actors who can still win their 4th acting Oscar

Katharine Hepburn is the only person to win 4 Oscars in an acting category. Out of 12 total nominations she scored 4 lead actress nod becoming a record holder for most acting win. She is closely followed by 5 actors with 3 wins, of whom 2 are passed away. The rest three (pictured above) still stand a chance to break a record.

MERYL STREEP

If there is one person equally critics and audience darling, that's her. I doubt there is a person who either hates her, or her works, or says that she ain't talented. 19 times Oscar nominee, already a record holder at Golden Globes and winner of 164+ awards, still continues an active filming career. This year Meryl Streep has at least 3 films to premiere. Being nominated this year for Into the Woods, she is most realistic candidate for 4th victory.

Two year ago, when she accepted the Oscar for Iron Lady, she said: "...I really understand I'll never be up here again..."^ But you never know. As for now, there is no actress as good as Meryl, that active of her age and everyone's sweetheart. I would not be surprised if she endes her career with 4th well deserved win.

DANIEL DAY-LEWIS

Daniel won all three Oscars in a leading role category, which is another record in The Academy history. Seems, he is well likable among voters. Even though, he does not have an upcoming film yet, he might be back with another huge role in couple of years. Bearing in mind, how actors branch love comebacks of big names and how they easily vote older people over younger ones, Day-Lewis can be the first male actor to win 4 Oscars. I personally would not mind him holding that record.

If you look at his filmography, he always has 3 to 5 years gap in between each movie. Having filmed back in 2012, he is expected to be back in two years or so.

JACK NICHOLSON

He technically retired. Jack now is 77 years old, having one of the best careers in his past. He has played some of most iconic characters in film history and if he ever comes back, and we have precedents of even later comebacks, he might as well score a nomination or even a win. Jack Nicholson is one of my personal favorites.

His 4th win is least likely among this trio. As much as I want, I don't see it to be realistic seeing him on that stage once again.

There are number of brilliant male or female actors with wins, most recent Cate Blanchett who seemingly has a good project to be finished this year -  Carol. But I can't imagine she getting another two wins, since the acting categories are getting even more and more competitive (unarguably, 30-40 years ago there was less competition).

So, what do you think? Is it possible any other actor to win 4 acting Oscars?

I could see any of these three winning, most likely Day-Lewis who seems to only get nominated for performances he's actually in the running to win for. I think it's harder for someone like Streep to win, because she's nominated for everything. It gives the impression that there is always next time with her, and we all know that AMPAS is rather ageist when it comes to actresses, so the older you are the harder it is to win. Not so with actors.

I agree about Lewis, he won 60% of his nominations. You could be right about Streep, but she still managed to win for Iron Lady, even though she probably had the one of hardest competition with Viola Davis.
