3 days until Oscars: 3 Academy Awards record no one will ever break

There are dozens of official Oscar records, by age, number of nominations/wins, for movies, for individuals, etc. Some are recent, some are really old. I find reading articles about those record very entertaining and I know some of them well. Even though, I believe most of them will never be broken due to simple fact that these years are alot more competitive compared to past. However, there are 3 records that will NEVER, EVER be broken. So they are:

MOST NOMINATIONS BY INDIVIDUAL
record holder: Walt Disney; number of nominations: 59

Walt Disney is a legendary filmmaker, who has probably competed in all different types of movie-making, including full feature animations to short subject documentaries. He had collected this enormous number of honors through numerous branches of Academy Awards.

In fact, the runner-up for this record is legendary John Williams, who is nominated for the Academy Awards 49 time. Looks pretty close, but I highly doubt he can make another 10 nominations until he turns 93, bearing in mind that he is now scoring far less films than he used to in 70s-80s-90s. The same time, there is no person other then him who has a theoretical chance to catch up with Disney. So, I think that the record for most nominations by individual will always be held by Walt Disney.

MOST WINS IN A SINGLE YEAR BY INDIVIDUALS
record holder: Walt Disney; number of wins: 4

In 1954, Walt Disney won four awards out of six nominations. He won Best Documentary, Features for The Living Desert; Best Documentary, Short Subjects for The Alaskan Eskimo; Best Short Subject, Cartoons for Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom; and Best Short Subject, Two-reel for Bear Country.

Obviously, no one is going to win 4 Oscars the same night, especially for 4 different films. It's technically possible if a nominee directs, writes, produces and edits the film and it wins all of them. In fact, James Cameron and Peter Jackson won 3 awards for their films, with minor difference that Jackson won for writing and Cameron for editing. Both topped directing and best picture categories.

So, I am quite sure we won't see more than 4 wins in a single year by an individual, especially when even Best Picture winners fail to score 4 or 5 wins lately.

BIGGEST CLEAN SWEEP
record holder: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King; size of sweep: 11

LOTR joined Titanic and Ben Hur for most wins and it also beat Gigi and The Last Emperor, which held size 9 sweep record before.

When Steven Spielberg went on the stage to name the Best Picture of 2003 he only said: "It''s a clean sweep", meaning that a film won all the nominations it got. By then everyone knew that final chapter of

So, why is this unbreakable? Well, because to make it bigger, a films needs least 12 noms and all wins. Can you imagine that? Especially a movie that scores more wins than the big trio? I don't think it happens.

Technically, it's unbreakable.

Yeah, I have a feeling you're right. Topping any of these is going to be VERY hard...lol...but if anyone tops Disney's nomination count, we all know it'll be Meryl Streep :-P

These are definitely going to be hard to beat for sure. When I first started to read the one about the most nominations, John Williams immediately came to mind, but you're right. Getting 10 more at his age could be pushing it. Then there's always Meryl, she might do it. lol

Haha, good guess. I don't mind it, but I don't think it happens :D

As much as I love John, I doubt he breaks it. If he was like ten years younger, he would have had a good chance. But not now.

lol, you can hope for Meryl to break any record, you know :D
